Entry in a Field Guide: Draft Snakes

This piece is an interpretation of October 2008′s weather statistics in Long Island City, New York provided to me by the SP Weather Station.

The SP Weather Station asked 12 artists to interpret one month of weather data collected by the station.

October is a month marked by dramatic drops in temperature in this part of the world. It is when we first turn on our heating systems and bring out the draft snakes to line our window and doors. October 2008 was typical weather-wise but also saw a fluctuating stock market, all the more reason to use these energy-saving serpents.

From the SP Weather Station website:

“SP Weather Station is an artist-run weather station based on a studio rooftop in Long Island City, New York. Co-founded by Natalie Campbell and Heidi Neilson in 2007, SP Weather Station is an interdisciplinary project which collects weather data, hosts a Guest Lecture Series, and produces artist multiples.”
